Bikram Yoga of Ashland

Bikram Yoga of Ashland

There's a Bikram yoga studio in Ashland. I was really excited to discover this because it has been just over a year since I've been able to practice regularly. Last year I began practicing at Bikram Yoga of Encino and I set myself a goal to do 60 days straight. This is often referred to as Bikram's 60 day challenge. The idea being that if you practice every day for 60 days then amazing things will happen in your life.

60 days of Bikram is an amazing thing. It does change your life by making you healthier, more active, more flexible, stronger, and more balanced. I have completed two 60 day challenges. It takes discipline and determination. There are days where my body said NOOOOOOO! I don't want to stretch. But as Bikram likes to say, "the mind is more powerful than the body." (actually I'm not sure if that is an exact quote, but it sounds like something Bikram would say.) Each day I would drag myself out of bed and into the 105 degree torture chamber just to be able to check of another day. Each day I would finish feeling much better than when I started. That is the power of Bikram Yoga.

On my second day in Oregon I signed up for a month of unlimited yoga. I'm not going to dive into a 60 day challenge just yet. My body is way out of shape and I'm going to see if a cycle might bring me back faster. The idea is to try a 3-1 cycle. Three days of yoga followed by a day of no-yoga. In this manner I'll get a day to rest and recover. Later, when I've dropped some of the extra flesh riding around my waist I'll do another 60 day challenge. When I do I'll post about it and you all can keep me on track.

The staff at Bikram of Ashland is great. The owner is a wonderfully sweet woman named Donna. There are two other instructors that I've had class with, Ann and William. There aren't so many classes here. One at 9:00 AM and one at 4:30 PM. Each time I've been the studio has been nearly full to capacity. Donna told me that Ashland was one of the first places to have a Bikram studio and the community has been very strong ever since.

Yay Bikram!
