14 Kayakers, 4 Surfers, and 1 Raft

Here’s some video that I shot in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The videos require Quicktime 7

The Kayakers!

Don Grall surfs the wave. We spoke just as I was getting my video camera out to shoot, and explained to me how a lot of towns throughout Colorado were putting in waves like this one to attract people. From the crowd on the riverbank this seems to be a good idea.

  1. Hi Philip,
We talked a bit before you started shooting.
I’m the kayaker in video #3 and #7.

Nice footage, especially the raft carnage! I sure hope they were able to retrieve their raft as it was last seen just above the South Canyon bridge about 4 miles downstream.

    Don

  2. Don, Thanks, you guys make it easy. The raft was classic. Without knowing anything about them I’d say it was a new raft on its maiden voyage.

  3. Phil, great footage, we were the designers and spectators like yourself are part of the success. http://www.riverrestoration.org

  4. Jason, Thanks for the comment and the link. What a great project to work on. I may have to plan a road trip to check out all the other waterparks you guys have built/designed. But I’m bringing my kayak with me just as soon as I can acquire one. Anyone have a used playboat for sale?

  5. That’s my bro Keith!!!!!! I have been rafting with him for a few years, he rocks!!! I have never been with him the few times he has flipped. Fun to see it!!! Thanks!

  6. Ang, thanks for commenting. It makes the video so much better when we get to hear the full story. As a spectator it appeared to me that it was a new raft with a novice rafter. Keith commented on youtube that the raft is about four years old, and of course he’s a lot more experienced than this one clip would indicate.
