Blood red sunset clouds over West Texas
At the end of my second day on the road my trip planning appears to be quite accurate… My Montero is performing at about 19 miles per gallon. Fuel prices have been very close, and miles traveled just about spot on. Yeah, I’m pleased.
Here’s the official breakdown:
| Town | Miles | Gallons | MPG | Price | Total | +/- budget |
| New Braunfels, Tx | 0 | 15.5 | N/A | $1.36 | $21.03 | +$1.03 |
| Ozona, Tx | 224 | 12 | 18.7 | $1.65 | $19.80 | -$0.20 |
| Carlsbad, NM | 244.9 | 13.2 | 18.6 | $1.66 | $21.90 | -$1.84 |
| Deming, NM | 278.3 | 14.1 | 19.7 | $1.58 | $22.32 | -$1.18 |
| Tucson, Az | 225 | 11.8 | 19 | $1.46 | $17.25 | -$0.27 |
I’m under my fuel budget by $2.46 so far… Ya gotta like that!
More tomorrow after I get to San Diego.
Wow! What a beautiful shot! Looks like red lightning.
Thanks for sharing!

Nancy, Thanks so much for the great comment. That sky was simply breathtaking. Definitely not red lightning, I had the pleasure of watching that beautiful color for most of half an hour.
Free room in Palo Alto if you want it. OK, not totally free: you have to play Go Fish with Abigail. Or maybe Feed The Kitty.
Current gas prices here: $1.88/gal.

I’d love to play Go Fish with Abigail. Should be arriving in the Bay area on 13 or 14 January. As things get closer I’ll let you know when.
I’m finding prices a little bit higher than what I’m finding on the Fuel Me Up website so it helps.
Thanks for the gas info.
