Bikram Yoga Bend Challenge Board
Daily discipline is an amazing thing. It allows us to accomplish incredible goals. The more difficult the challenge the more rewarding the results. In January when I arrived in Bend I was weighing in heavier than I’ve ever been. I wasn’t just heavy…. I was FAT! I had a huge gut sticking out in front of me. It was so bad that I had trouble putting on my socks.
Look at this!

245 lbs on January 24th 2009 my first day of Bikram Yoga in 8 Months.
After 8 months of not working out and pretty much eating everything in sight I had really ballooned up. Fortunately I knew what I needed to do. I knew that several months of a consistent Bikram yoga practice would dump the fat and tighten up my mid section. All that was needed was a studio to practice at. That is one of the reasons why I’ve chosen Bend, Oregon. We have an amazing Bikram Studio here.
As soon as I got moved into my Apartment I signed up for monthly unlimited classes and began a 90 day challenge. Learning from past experience getting back into Bikram is very painful. The best way for me is to just jump in and do it. Previously I’ve successfully completed two 60 day challenges. They were each followed by a long break in my practice. This time I figured to just blow right by that 60 day wall with a 90 day challenge.
It’s been a long three months, but the results have been well worth the hard work. Starting out at 245 lbs. The day before completing my challenge I had a physical and the nurse weighed me in at 205 Lbs. 40 lbs lost in 90 days. I’m feeling very fit, and looking forward to a good consistent year of practicing Bikram Yoga.

205 lbs on April 24th 2009 after 90 days of Bikram Yoga.
Way to go…i too lost 29 lbs with bikram…i am a loyal yogi now, practicing 4-5 times a week now for 22 months…i even practice when i travel, having been to 15 different studios all across US, canada and new zealand. namaste
Paul, Thanks so much. I am looking forward to a consistent practice this year. Even though I’ve lost 40 Lbs I still have 25 lbs to go to meet my target weight of 180 lbs. Going to different studios is always great. Each studio, each instructor has unique and useful information to pass on, and my practice always benefits. namaste
Dr. Matt prescribes: smaller plates.
Toss out your 12″ dinner plates. Buy 9″ plates. Fill them up once a meal.
You do look much better in the photo. Ladies’ man.

But 9″ plates don’t hold the gianormous portions Americans love… How can we be satisfied unless each of us is consuming enough food to feed a family of 4 in [insert tiny unknown far off country here].
3 months of Bikram helps. I’ve gained some of the weight back since being in Louisiana to help Dad. More because of inactivity than the food.
Hey… fast forward a little more than a year… did you keep it up? Are you still practicing?

Up until May I was getting really consistant with my practice. This year I started out doing another challenge that I ended at about day 52. Suddenly the yoga didn’t seem to be helping, and I let my body take a break. Work has kept me away since early June, so I get my postures in a little bit at home. It’s the only way to keep flexibility. Summer is here though and I’ve got a lot more going on. Thanks for checking in Lea.
