It's one week before the 2008 Presidential Election. Heading into this last week of the campaign the mainstream media and the polls have Senator Barack Obama leading Senator John McCain. Most of these sources are reporting this as if it's a slam-dunk for Obama. When I look at the polls though I see a very close race.

Rasmussen: Obama 52, McCain 44.

Gallup: Obama 52, McCain 43.

Zogby: Obama 49, McCain 44.

Hotline: Obama 50, McCain 42.

IBD: Obama 47, McCain 43.

ABC: Obama 53, McCain 44.

The country is obviously polarized over this election, and in no way do these polls indicate a landslide for Senator Obama as much of the mainstream media would have you believe. America has a long difficult road ahead. As I've stated previously here and here I believe Barack Obama will end up costing everyone much more in taxes. Then of course there is my over all opinion of all politicians here.

Ultimately this election comes down to one thing. Do you believe that you can help yourself (Conservative) or do you believe that you need the government to help you (liberal)?

Alfonso (Zo) Rachel is a Black man from California who has a number of excellent videos here where he articulates his views on being a black conservative voting for John McCain versus Barack Obama. Zo is a man who has stepped back from the fray weighed the issues as they pertained to his life and circumstances, and chosen a side. Here's his latest video.

It’s simple. When Obama implements his tax plan the end result will be higher taxes and fewer jobs for everyone. Raise taxes on people who make $250K or more and those people will figure out how to make less than $250K. Raise taxes on corporations and small businesses that can afford it, and those businesses will pass on the increased expense to their customers. End result? We will all pay higher taxes.
There is NO acceptable reason that people who have become successful enough to earn $250K or more a year should be taxed at a higher rate than someone like me who barely made any money last year. I don’t want Obama’s handout! I don’t need Obama’s handout! I just want Obama to keep his grubby hands out of my pockets! I want Obama to keep his grubby hands out of your pockets too! Of course we must pay taxes. I don’t question that at all. With taxes we purchase infrastructure and defense. Those are things that government should be involved in.
Obama is not interested in your success or prosperity! He is only interested in giving you a handout so that he may control and manipulate your life.

Earlier this week Barack Obama was approached by a man in Ohio. That man was Joe Wurzelbacher, and he asked Obama Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?. It was a direct question. Obama gave a revealing answer. It's not that I want to punish your success, I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success, too.

Obama further explained, My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody.

Many people are making much of Joe the Plumber this week. John McCain referenced Joe almost two dozen times during the debate the other night. Joe Biden says that Joe the Plumber doesn't exist in his hometown. The media is questioning Joe's integrity. They say that Carl Rove planted him in the crowd. They're pointing out that he is not a licensed plumber, that he owes back taxes, and he doesn't make $250K a year, and that somehow John McCain has made a mistake in using Joe to illustrate the dangers of Obama's tax plan.

What is this, the Stepford Plumbers Association? Anyone that represents America has to be perfect? I've got some news for the mainstream media. We're all flawed. We're all struggling to achieve the American Dream. Joe the plumber seems like an ordinary citizen in this country. Like many Americans Joe would like the government get out of his way so that he can get busy with his life and his business.

Obama says he's worried about the little people behind Joe. He says that he wants to give them a chance at success too. Senator Obama I've got news for you. We already have that chance. No other place or time in history has had so many people who have achieved success the way Americans have. America is a place where hard work, innovation, persistence, and determination pay off. The biggest impediment to ordinary Americans is the American government. While Joe the plumber struggles to earn enough money to buy the business he works for you keep trying to take it away from him to give it to someone else. Someone else whom you believe needs a chance for success.

I'm with Joe on this Senator Obama. I'm with Senator McCain and Governor Palin. This country needs to get out of the way of its citizens and businesses!

Is politics really as exciting as the media would like us to believe? If so, shouldn't politicians always have that RockStar aura around them where ever they go? Shouldn't there be thousands of fans mobbing their limos, their hotels, their meetings? For all the fuss that they make, will Obama, McCain, or Clinton really be able to do anything that will substantially change your life?

Really now! I like the idea that I can go out and change my life on my own if I choose. Why do I need some politician in Washington telling me what I should or shouldn't be doing? I take responsibility for my life and I refuse to give any of it over to THEM!

Here's how I feel about the whole mess.

Just so you're not confused.

None of the candidates were consulted in the making of this blog post. My name is Philip Robert and I approve this blog!
